Plays
Starting in 2006, I have been writing 10-minute and full-length plays, plus a one-act and a long one-act. Self-published print versions of Conversations in a Cafe, All About Faith and Rehearsals (full lengths), plus a Collected Short Plays book, are available through Amazon.com. Currently, all plays (long and short) are represented for performance rights by the author (wm.d.cissna@gmail.com).
Full-Length Projects
Conversations in a Cafe
In a small cafe in a very large city, nine individuals cross paths in various stages of the eternal search for love, companionship or at least acceptance. Two acts. Premiered October 2010 at Korner's Folly, Kernersville, N.C.; staged reading, BrooklynONE Productions, Brooklyn, NY, May 14, 2016. Print script at amazon.com.
All About Faith
A jaded prison psychologist suddenly faces her greatest challenge: a troubled young woman whose chief form of communication is biblical verses. 95 minutes, no intermission. Staged reading was January 2011 at Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance; self-produced for four shows in Greensboro. Print script at Amazon.com.
Rehearsals
Wilmertown Community Theatre is busy preparing its production of Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband -- but in the tradition of community theater, problems abound from early rehearsals through the final catastrophic opening night. And yet ... theater may live on. Produced by Triad Playwrights Theatre in Greensboro, NC - four shows, August 2019. Print script at Amazon.com.
Reunions
Ten acquaintances from high school meet again at their 10th reunion - and again at their 20th. A reading of this full-length was held Monday, August 25, 2014 (Central Library Auditorium, Winston-Salem, NC) and at Mack & Mack, Greensboro (Tuesday, August 26).
Other full-length projects include The Good Life; an adaptation of Charles' Dickens A Christmas Carol(produced by Kernersville Little Theatre, Nov. 2018). Works in progress include an adaptation of Mark Twain's The Prince and the Pauper.
One-Act Plays
At this time, I have written one play of a shorter one-act length, entitled Patent.
A longer one-act, The Blue Death (runs about 50 minutes), was recently produced as a Zoom reading production by The Little Theatre of Winston-Salem. It revisits the "Spanish Flu" pandemic of 1918 in the words of people who survived it in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina.
My 50-minute one-act play The Blue Death was produced as a Zoom-recorded online presentation by The Little Theatre of Winston-Salem (NC - ltofws.org) in November, 2020.
